Three major treks in the Langtang region
Langtang village is a narrow valley that lies just south of the Tibetan border, but very close to Kathmandu. Langtang Trek offers you an opportunity to hike Kyanjin Gompa where you can see an awesome view of a small narrow village and ice fall falling from Langtang Lirung, Kinshuang. After hiking to the Langtang Valley Trails move towards Kathmandu via Syabrubeshi.
Thus, Langtang Valley Trek terminates at Syabrubeshi but you can choose to extend your journey by exploring the holy lake Gosainkunda, Ganja–La, and Helambu circuit.
You can vary your Langtang Valley Trek by exploring further Gosainkunda Lake which is a major pilgrimage site with a high cross and breathtaking panorama. Either you can extend the Langtang trek via Gosainkunda or make a short trek from Dhunche to beautiful Gosainkunda Lake. Solo Gosainkunda Lake Trek can also be the best experience of natural and cultural blend trekking in Nepal. Thousands of Hindu devotees visit this lake, moreover, this Gosainkund is sacred to Buddhists too.
Helambu is a small town mainly inhabited by Sherpa people, which is about 75km north of Kathmandu. Helambu region can also be included in Langtang Trek either via holy Gosainkunda lake or the adventurous Ganja–La Pass.
Mainly, Trekkers choose to cross Ganja la Pass above 5000m and return through Helambu in a Langtang region Trek. Anyway, it is not necessary to include the Helambu trail in Langtang Trek because you could trek Helambu Circuit Trek.
if you are leading towards the Langtang region trekking Dhunche would be your first station which is about 117km from Kathmandu. And if you are going further for Langtang Valley you would pass Syabrubeshi or Thulo Bharkhu.
The best time to trek Langtang Gosainkund and Helambu trekking is generally the same season as in the other trekking of Nepal. Mainly, spring and mid-summer are considered as the peak season for trekking. Whereas in winter season-high routes of the Langtang region are usually snow-covered and dangerous which might be very hard to accomplish or impossible sometimes.
Spring season is full of nurturing green scenery decorated with red rhododendrons and colorful wildflowers. And monsoon season displays a lot of rain which could make the journey very irritating.
Though the Langtang region is one of the off-beaten trails and remote Trekking zone, there are abundant of lodges throughout the Langtang, Gosainkunda, and Helambu. Lodges are generally run by the local native people which provide good food and hot showers for the guests. Though the services are not well developed like in ABC Trek and EBC Trek, the facility is adequate for trekkers in the Langtang region trekking.
Anywhere you do trekking in Nepal, you need trekking permits, and fees which could be obtained from the Nepal Tourism Board located in Bhrikuti Mandap, Kathmandu. In the Langtang Trekking region, there are check posts like Dhunche, Kutumsang, and Sarmthang, which would not let you pass until you show a Trekking permit.
