Ama Lapcha-La Pass Trek is an adventure that leads to a small-scale mountaineering experience. One of the highest traverse and pass crossing around Nepal Himalayas, an exciting country similar to artic zone landscapes. An adventure within the hidden valleys of the Khumbu region, and the southern side of Mt. Everest. The walk takes you away from the main trail on off-the-beaten tracks seldom ventured by a few groups of trekkers.
Ama Lapcha-La Pass often called Amphu Labtsa, where the trek leads you to remote corners of eastern Khumbu. Close towards the high Baruntse Himal and Mt. An amazing walk from a dense forest of rhododendron, pines, oaks, and firs to juniper trees. As the adventure progresses heading into the arid barren country around glaciated valleys enclosed by staggering snow peaks. Ama Lapcha-La Pass Trek begins on reaching a busy town in Lukla at Tenzing & Hillary Airport from Kathmandu. A famous and the main gateway town to various adventure destinations around the high Khumbu and Everest region.
From Lukla, our route diverts from the main trails heading North East with a steep climb above Naulekh. Crossing over the Zatwar-La pass to enter scenic Hinku Valley, the walk continues past cattle herder temporary shelters. Reaching close to the base of the famous Mera Peak, one of the highest trekking peaks around Nepal Himalayas.
On leaving the dense tree lines come across a mountainous zone of ice, moraine, and glaciated valleys. Then crossing over the high Mera-La pass to Hongu Valley where the route of Makalu and Sherpani Col pass joins. Having time for acclimatization and exploring the tranquil surroundings at Seto and Panch Pokhari, glacial ponds.
Following our lead expert guide to the top of Ama Lapcha-La Pass, the highest point of the adventure. Rewards stunning panorama of giant peaks that encircles the high pass, including views of Everest, Lhotse, and Nuptse. Overlooking a close look of Ama Dablam, Baruntse Himal, and Mt. Makalu in the east direction.
From the pass, downhill is equally challenging as the steep climb, where ropes are fixed for a safe descent. After completing the toughest part of the adventure, the rest of the walk is on a moderate trail to Chukung.
A small settlement for the first overnight halt in a nice lodge facing grand close views of Island Peak. The adventure follows a nice pleasant path within the beautiful and scenic Imjatse valley to Dingboche. A lovely and large settlement, from Dingboche downhill reaching the main trail to Pangboche and then climbing to Tengboche.
A beautiful spot of Tengboche with a majestic monastery atop the village, surrounded by an array of peaks. The walk continues through a lovely serene forest down and up to Namche Bazaar, the major hub of Khumbu Sherpa’s. As well as trekkers offer various delightful facilities with many good lodges, hotels, and well-stocked shops and stores.
Leaving Namche Bazaar after an enjoyable overnight stop, slowly our adventure comes to an end, reaching Lukla. Next morning a swift scenic flight brings you to Kathmandu, after a most exciting adventure on Ama Lapcha-La Pass Trek.

A free day in Kathmandu for last minute shopping required for the trek. Interested people can join in for short sightseeing tour, around places of great historical, religious and cultural interest.
Morning transfer to Kathmandu domestic airport for flight to Lukla, a scenic short flight of 35 minutes. On reaching Lukla at Tenzing & Hillary Airport, having time to get refreshed, then start walk heading north east. The walk leads on isolated route through dense forest of rhododendron and pines to overnight camp at Chutanga. A small settlement of cattle herder summer grazing area amidst forest surroundings.
On leaving the first overnight camp at Chutanga, having good breakfast a short easy walk to the base of Naulekh. Also called Kalo-Himal, a high rocky ridge, as climb to a steep up and crossing Zatwar-La Pass. From the top enjoy views of Dudh Koshi River valley and of Lukla town with Kongde and Dudh Kund Himal.
Walk then follows to a steep descent towards Hinko valley area reaching Kharti-Tanga for overnight camp. A small temporary grazing area of local cattle herder, on an isolated surroundings.
Morning on leaving the camp, walk leads further east on entering the serene areas of Hinku Valley. Enclosed by lovely woods of tall rhododendron, pines, oaks and juniper trees. As walk continues for some hours reaching Kothey for overnight stop, tents are set on a nice grassy field.
An interesting walk to Thagnak, the trek follows on a lovely forested path crossing Hinku stream reaching a wide field. Where one can notice an old Buddhist shrine close to the trail, as walk continues reaching Thagnak for overnight camp.
Thagnak, located on lovely surrounding facing views of Mera Peak and Kusum-Khanguru, having a small huts serving as tea-house.
A lovely spot for rest and acclimatization, with time for side hike around the high hills for best views. Rest of the day enjoy exploring the hidden corners of Hinku valley and the last day around tree lines.
From Thagnak, morning starts with moderate day walk for few hours with scenic views of Hinku valley. The trek follows on to cross over a moraine with a dam of Char-Patti Tal (a lake with square shaped). From here onwards on remote mountainous terrain of moraine and ice with rocky trail to a higher ground.
The area lined with cairns overlooking glacial lake, as climb continues with a short descent to Dig Kharka. From here an hour walk to cross over a boulder strewn hillside, to overnight camp at Khare. Which is close to Mera Peak, facing wonderful surrounding scenery.
Leaving the camp at Khare to cross over high Mera-La pass, on leaving Hinku valley towards Hongu valley area. The climb leads on gradual slope on rocky path reaching atop Mera-La, then short downhill to the base. Finding a nice level ground for overnight camp in complete wilderness.
From the base of Mera-La, walk towards Hongu valley heading closer to Baruntse Himal area. The route leads overlooking close views of Amphu Lapcha peak and Mt. Makalu. As walk progresses reaching a wide glaciated field at Kongma Dingma for overnight camp.
Morning walk follows with gradual climb, then heading to a steep moraine and rocky glacier. Leading towards an old and recent moraine deposits, and then reaching a wonderful spot at Seto Pokhari. Which means a white pond due to ice covered surface, the area also called a place of five ponds. Here our camp is set for overnight at above 5,035 m high.
Having another leisure and rest day, after a steep climb over rocky moraine and icy path. The rest day allows our porter and staff, as well for trekkers to regain the energy for next hard day. On this day our guide will also check the safe and best possible route to cross over Ama-Lapcha-La Pass.
From the camp at Seto Pokhari, morning a short moderate walks with climb for an hour over rocky terrain. Reaching an icy sections from the frozen small streams towards our overnight camp, right at the bottom of Ama-Lapcha-La pass.
Afternoon free to pull back the energy back for final challenging climb to cross last big pass of the adventure. The guides will scout the route of Ama-Lapcha-La and will fix ropes on some difficult sections for safe descents toward Imjatse Valley.
A Big Day! Starting early morning with steep climb to the top of Ama Lapcha-La pass. After a hard steep up reaching the highest point of the adventure, rewards breathtaking panorama of surrounding peaks.
After a tough climb, letting our camping staff and porters to go down first. Having fix ropes, to bail down all crews and members to a safe ground.Reaching away from snow, ice sections, and then short walk to an icy pond at Parsya Gyab for overnight camp. Setting tents close to famous Island Peak which is around the corner.
After a great experience crossing high Ama-Lapcha-La pass, morning walk for few hours with short climb over moraine. As walk leads to Chukung for overnight in the comfort of nice cozy lodge. Chukung located at the end of scenic Imjatse Valley on route to Ama-Lapcha-La and Island Peak base camp.
An easy day, from here onwards heading towards on Khumbu and Everest base camp main busy trail. Leaving Chukung walk on pleasant path on a wide Imjatse valley to Dingboche, from here down to a stream. On crossing a bridge a short up and then downhill to Pangboche for lunch stop.
From Pangboche downhill to cross a bridge, and then climb for few hour reaching Tengboche and the majestic monastery. One of the most scenic spot surrounded with an array of snow peaks with views of Mt. Everest. At Tengboche with enough time for tour of the monastery of great cultural and religious interest.
Morning walk begins to a long descend reaching Imjatse River at Phungi Tenga, crossing over a bridge. From the bridge climb to Sanasa village, and then on gentle winding trail all the way to Namche Bazaar. At Namche for overnight stop and explore streets with shops and stores includes many restaurants and bakeries.
From Namche a long day walk to Lukla, but easier on downhill path to Dudh Kosi River. From the river gorge and valley a short climb to Sagarmatha National Park entrance and exit point. As walk continues past Monjo village towards Phakding village for possible lunch break. Afternoon a few hours of good walk with last hour climb to Lukla for last overnight around high Khumbu region.
As per flight time for Kathmandu, normally early morning by 7 a.m. onwards walk to Tenzing & Hillary airport. As plane arrives, then board in a small aircraft for sweeping panoramic flight to Kathmandu. On arrival at Kathmandu transfer to your hotel, rest of the afternoon at leisure.
At Kathmandu a free and spare day, reserved in case of flight delay and cancellation due to bad weather condition. On this free day enjoy individual activities and shopping or join in for an exciting tour around Patan / Lalitpur and Bhaktapur cities.
Last day in Nepal, as flight time for international departure our staff transfers you to the airport for homeward bound flight. After an amazing adventure and wonderful experience on Ama Lapcha-La Pass Trek.
