Where is Mount Everest?

People wonder about Mount Everest and they have lots of questions regarding the Everest. Since the early school life, people have been giving quiz answers about the world’s tallest mountain as Mt. Everest (8848.86 m). However, many people don’t know about its location. The latitude and longitude location of Mt. Everest is 27.9881 N, 86.9250 E. It is located in the Solukhumbu district of Nepal. Is it necessary to do Namche Bazaar Acclimatization during the Everest Base Camp Trek?

Well, it is necessary to do acclimatization activities while doing high altitude trekking. However, if you are with an experienced team of trekking trip organizers you can always get safe alternatives. The most safer way to explore the Everest region of Nepal is to trek with the experts. Our itinerary excludes one day’s acclimatization activity in Namche Bazaar. Instead of this acclimatization, our trekkers trek from Namche Bazaar to Debuche and spend the overnight instead of Tengboche. The altitude of Tengboche monastery is 3880 m but the altitude of Debuche is about 100 m less. Therefore, it applies the theory of acclimatization.

Why Dingboche Acclimatization is crucial for a successful Everest Trek?

The altitude of Dingboche is 4400 m from sea level. Beyond this place, trekkers have to walk and spend overnight above 4500 m altitude. This altitude is very risky in terms of altitude sickness. Therefore, trekkers have to go through adjustment. In order to prepare yourself for high altitude trekking, trekkers climb the Nagarshan hill (5100 m). The hill is near Dingboche. In fact, the village of Dingboche is in the foothill of Nagarshan hill.

Important information to know before Everest Base Camp Trek

Permits: You must get two permits for Everest Base Camp Trek. Sagarmatha National Park Entry fee and Pasang Lhamu Rural Municipality permit are two permits required for the trek. You may also need a TIMS permit.

Trek Difficulty

Lukla Flight

In high season, trekkers have to take the Lukla flight from Ramechhap instead of Kathmandu. Trekkers have to drive for more than 4 hours to reach the Ramechhap airport. This arrangement is created to avoid traffic and reduce the flight time to Lukla. On peak season, it is almost impossible to take all the trekkers from Kathmandu directly to Lukla. This helps to avoid the flight cancellation. The most important thing to know before the Everest Base Camp Trek in Nepal is the nature of Lukla flight. It is the flight to one of the most extreme airports of the world. Therefore, plan it out with our team of experts. If you wish to avoid the flight, you need to add 3 – 4 days extra as you can reach Phakding by using a road trip and 3 days of walking. Details Itinerary

We will have take early morning breakfast at hotel or get the packed breakfast as per the flight schedule. Remember that if we have to take the Lukla flight from Ramechhap, we need to start as early as 4 am in the morning. If the flight is from Kathmandu, we need to reach the airport around 5 am in the morning according to the schedule. Most of the flights to Lukla is in the morning in order to avoid the change in weather. Morning weather is considered as safe time to fly to Lukla. Once we land in Lukla after 30 to 35 minutes of flight, we will take a sip of coffee and meet our porters. All the bags will be arranged and we will start the trek. On the way, we will have to walk through various villages, small monasteries and cross at least two suspension bridges to reach Phakding. It is a small village on the bank of the Dudhkoshi River. Some trekkers trek up to Monjo according to their flight time. It takes about 3 hours to reach Phakding from Lukla. Overnight at Teahouse

Today is a long day of trekking. We will trek for more than 6 hours today. The trail is relatively easy to navigate. We will trek on the banks of Dudhkoshi River and cross several suspension bridges. The most iconic bridge we will cross on this section is the Twin Bridge on the foothill of Namche Bazaar. From this bridge, we will have to walk uphill for about 1.5 hours to reach Namche Bazaar. The Bazaar is the Sherpa heartland and main marketplace of upper Khumbu. Therefore, you can find plenty of eateries, resorts, guest houses, and shops in the market. This is the only place where you can use atm to withdraw money  and also to do last minute shopping needed for the trek. The view of mountains like Kusum Kangaru, Kwangde, and Thamserku delights you. Interestingly, few kilometers before reaching Namche Bazaar, trekkers can get the first glimpse of Mt. Everest as well if the weather is clear. Overnight at Teahouse

We will walk on the flat track until we reach Kyangjuma from Namche Bazaar. Along the way you can see the gorgeous view of mountains like Mt. Everest, Lhotse, Nuptse, Tabuche, and Amadablam. In fact, Mt. Amadablam is ever present on this section. We will have to walk downhill to Phungi Thanga and again climb uphill to reach Tengboche. After a brief visit of the monastery, we will again trek downhill for about half an hour to reach Debuche. The village is small and has few teahouses and lodges. Overnight at Teahouse

After breakfast, we will continue our trek along the banks of Imja River. After climbing a ridge for about half an hour, we will enter the village of Pangboche. We will take our lunch either in Pangboche or in Somare. Pangboche is the second largest village of Sherpa people. You can observe the lifestyle of Sherpa people in this village while trekking. Somare is on the hill above the Imja River. It is a small hamlet of teahouses and restaurants. The trail after Somare is gentle uphill up to Dingboche Village. A small Stupa outside the Dingboche Village welcomes you. This is the largest and last village on this trekking trail. Overnight at Teahouse

We will do our acclimatization activities on this day. It is important to do acclimatization activities to enter the zone above four thousands meter height. Therefore, on this day we will hike to the top of Nagarshan Hill. The hike takes about 4 hours in total including both ascent and descent. In the evening, you can stroll around the village. There are many eateries and local houses where you can spend quality strolling. Talk with locals and fellow trekkers! This helps to get adjusted to the high altitude! Overnight at local Sherpa Teahouse

The journey from Dingboche onwards becomes relatively harder as the altitude rises and vegetation is scarce. We will walk on the ridge overlooking Mt. Pumori, Cholatse, Tabuche, and Lobuche. After lunch in Thukla, we will have to walk uphill up to Thukla Pass. The Pass top has a memorial of those climbers who have perished while climbing Mt. Everest. The trail from Thukla Pass to Lobuche is rugged but on a gentle flat. Overnight at Teahouse

Finally, today we will reach Everest Base Camp. We will walk through moraines and glacier to reach Gorakshep. After lunch at Gorakshep, we will hike to Everest Base Camp. It takes about 2 hours to reach the base camp. At base camp, we will spend about half an hour taking pictures and collecting memories before returning back to Gorakshep. Overnight at Teahouse

Early in the morning, we will start the hike to Kalapathar. It takes about 1.5 hours to reach the top of the hill which is about 5545 m high. The sunrise view from the top is gorgeous. After sunrise, we will descend back to Gorakshep and have breakfast. Once breakfast is done, we will continue our trek back to Pheriche retracing the same trail. Overnight at Teahouse

We will retrace back to Namche Bazaar. You can enjoy the evening in Namche Bazaar after a successful Everest trek. In comparison to ascending the time spent in Namche Bazaar during a return trip is always exciting. A decrease in altitude helps you to breathe normally and enjoy the majestic landscape as well as the attractions of the region. Overnight at Teahouse

We will retrace the same trail back to Lukla from Namche Bazaar via Monjo and Phakding. In the evening we will have a small party with the trekking crew members. Tips will be distributed among the members as this is the final night of trekking. Overnight at Teahouse

We will take flight from Lukla to Kathmandu. The agency will treat you the farewell dinner in Nepalese cultural restaurant. We will discuss the trip events and fill out the trekking feedback forms as well reviews in various platforms. Overnight at Hotel

On this day, we will either have a free time or do UNESCO WORLD HERITAGE SITES tour. The tour is not included in the package but you can discuss with our travel planners and we will help you doing the tour. The recommended activities on this day are sightseeing of various temples, Buddhist stupas, and palaces inside the Kathmandu Valley. It is very much important to have reserve day for Everest Base Camp Trekking. There is high chance of flight cancellations due to varied nature of weather conditions.
