Tengboche Monastery (3870m)

Tengboche monastery is also known as Dawa Choling Gompa in the Tengboche village in Khumjung in the Khumbu region of eastern Nepal. The Tengboche monastery is situated at 3867 meters (12687ft0 from sea level.

The Monastery was built in 1916 by Lama Gulu with strong links to its mother monastery known as the Rongbuk monastery in Tibet. Tengboche monastery is the largest and old valuable monastery in the Khumbu region. In 1934 the monastery was destroyed by an earthquake and was subsequently rebuilt in 1989. Again it was destroyed by fire and then rebuilt with the help of volunteers and international assistance.
