Trip Overview

Gosainkunda Pass Trek in Nepal and most fascinating destination in the Langtang region. It is also called East Laurabina-La a wonderful adventure following the pilgrimage trail to the holy Gosiankund ponds. The best Gosainkunda Pass Trek is an enjoyable high-altitude walk in the close harmony of beautiful surroundings of the high towering peaks of the Langtang Himalayas. The Lake is situated at 4300 m above sea level.

Sacred Lakes and Thrilling Langtang Himalayas Ranges

In addition, the trail takes you around lovely farm villages enriched with age-old heritage and the traditional culture of Buddhism. The region is populated highly by the indigenous mountain people the Tamang, the main tribes of Central and Langtang Himal. Moreover, the adventure starts with an exciting overland journey reaching the district of Rasuwa in Dhunche, the major town of Rasuwa. As well as the entrance of Langtang National Park, the first mountain park in Nepal Himalayas.

From Dhunche town on the high trail to Gosainkund glacial pond, revered as a sacred site by the Hindus. Where thousands of Nepalese and Indians make a pilgrimage once a year called Jani Purnima. The event and a festival are held in August as per the Hindu Lunar calendar. Gosainkunda and the glacial ponds belief and the story describe the creation of the Hindu god Lord Shiva.

A Holy Journey to Gosainkunda Lake

When Shiva consumed a lethal poison, to save the earthly human being and to dilute the potion created the lakes. In early times the areas around Gosainkund where 108 ponds existed, at present there are only half a dozen. Besides, some ponds can be seen on this trek to Gosainkund and beyond toward the Gosainkunda-La Pass.

On leaving Dhunche town a steep climb through a lovely forest of rhododendron and pines to Sing Gompa. The adventure continues further high facing glorious views of Ganesh, Manaslu as far as the Annapurna Himalaya range with Langtang Himal. The trail follows past the tree lines with uphill walks reaching West Laurabinaya high ridge.

As the walk leads past Bhairab and Saraswati Kunda, a large pond then reaches Gosainkunda’s main pond. Located on a glacial basin enclosed by towering rocky cliffs and snow peaks, have time to explore around. The trail follows uphill on rocky boulders past a few smaller ponds of Surya Kunda then reaches on top Gosainkunda-La Pass.

Excellent Gosainkunda Pass & Helambu Valley

From the top of the pass at 4,609 m high, enjoy the dramatic scenery of rolling hills and snow peaks. Long descent towards a nice forest reaching around the Helambu area at Kutumsang and Gul-Bhanjyang villages. This trail combined popular trekking trails like Langtang Valley, Tamang Heritage Trail, Ganjala Pass, and Helambu Circuit too.

Lastly, the walk follows on a high ridge at Chisapani a beautiful spot that offers spectacular views of sunrise and sunsets. Along with an array of Himalayan Mountain ranges in the north direction and then downhill to the town of Sundarijal. Day 01:         Arrival in Kathmandu and transfer to hotel.

Day 02:         Drive to Dhunche town 1,950 – 06 hrs.

Day 03:         Trek to Sing Gompa / Chandanbari 3,254 m – 05 hrs.

Day 04:         Trek to Gosainkund 4,381 m / 14,375 feet – 05 hrs.

Day 05:         Trek to Ghopte Odar 3,566 m via Gosainkund / Laurabina-La 4,609 m /15,100 ft.

Details Itinerary

On the first arrival at Kathmandu and Nepal international airport, our staff and guide receive you with a traditional welcome. A short drive to your hotel, situated in the main part of the city, and then check into your rooms. After getting refreshed join with other members of the group for trek briefing, our Tamang Randomness Treks guide.

We will provide necessary information regarding the trek, and culture with do’s and don’ts making your holiday in Nepal enjoyable. Evening a group dinner in a nice Nepalese restaurant with folk cultural programs, an introduction to Nepalese meals and culture.

In the morning after an early breakfast, and then depart for Langtang Valley trekking towards Nepal Central Himalayas around the district of Rasuwa. An interesting overland journey of 5-6 hours. Drive follows on winding uphill through many farm villages and towns, reaching Dhunche town for an overnight stop. Dhunche, headquarters of Rasuwa district and the entry point of Langtang National Park.

On leaving Dhunche town, walk to a river after crossing a small bridge and climb on a steep forested path. As an uphill walk continues within a cool woodland lined by tall pine and rhododendron trees. Then finally reached the overnight stop at Sing Gompa. A small and neat-looking village also called as Chandanbari means a place for sandalwood. After getting organized in a nice lodge, visit the Monastery, located on the top of the small village.

Today’s walk leads towards our final destination at Gosainkund, enjoy the morning walk with a short steep climb. Overlooking panorama of Langtang, Ganesh, and Manaslu Himalayas as far as towards Annapurna Himalaya range. A pleasant walk in a dense forest, soon leaving the tree lines behind as climb starts reaching Laurabinaya high hilltop. From here a short downhill towards Bhairab and Saraswati Kund / ponds with a short climb to Gosainkund.

At Gosainkund overnight in a simple lodge above the holy glacial pond of Gosainkund. Enjoy the afternoon exploring around the large pond, almost a size of a lake with a shrine of Lord Shiva. A Hindu God, as this area is regarded as a holy site for all Hindus as well for some Buddhist religions.

From Gosainkund, a morning walk leads across the holy pond, and then the climb starts to a high ridge. On reaching the top of Gosiankund and East Laurabina-La, facing glorious views of surrounding scenery.

A long descent to the base of the pass at Phedi, a place with few small shops and tea houses. After a refreshing rest trek continues back into the forest, then reaches our overnight stop at Ghopte Odar. A small place with simple huts serving as a lodge, the word Ghopte Odar means an overhanging cave.

After Ghopte Odar, walk for a few hours into a forest and then come to an open area. Where climb leads to a high ridge at Thade Patti for a possible lunch stop, a small settlement. Having several simple tea-house and shades, which is on route to the Helambu region. After a nice rest facing wonderful views of snow peaks, continue to walk downhill into lovely pines and rhododendron forest. Then ending the day walk reaching Kutumsang for an overnight stop in the comfort of a nice simple lodge.

Leaving Kutumsang, the walk leads on a high ridge with a few ups and down to another lovely village of Gul Bhanjyang. From here downhill to Pati Bhanjyang, a nice small farm village, and then a short climb to Chisapani. A scenic spot with a number of nice lodges and guest houses, located atop northeast of Kathmandu valley. From Chisapani enjoy a sunset view over an array of snow peaks of Langtang and JugalHimal towards the north. Includes Ganesh and Manaslu Himalayas in the west, at Chisapani enjoy the last overnight on the hills of the Himalayas.

Last day walk of the adventure, early morning enjoy the stunning sunrise views, having breakfast on a downhill trail. Walk into the forested path to Burlang Bhanjyang a nice farm village of the Tamang community. From here downhill continues to a lovely spot of Sundarijal, a place with fresh running streams and waterfalls. The walk leads to a nice forest surrounding and descent to a farm town of Sundarijal. Where our trek ends, then take a short drive to the inner city of Kathmandu and then back to your hotel. Rest of the day enjoy the afternoon at leisure for individual activities and shopping for souvenirs.

Last day in Kathmandu and Nepal, as time for your international flight our staff and guide transfer you to the airport. For international flight homeward bound. After a great adventure and wonderful experience on Gosainkund-La Pass Trekking.
