So, the Yala Peak Climbing is getting lots of climbers nowadays.
Here is the detailed Yala Peak Climbing itinerary:
Climbers have to reach the Yala Peak Base Camp before attempting to reach the summit. It involves the trekking activities starting from Syaprubeshi. Roadways is the only means after helicopter flight to reach the small town of Syaprubeshi. It takes about 7 to 8 hours along the Pasang Lhamu Highway to reach the town. There are options of local bus, shared jeep or private jeep to reach Syaprubeshi. It costs about NPR 1500 for a round trip if you are using the local bus and it takes about 150 $ to 200 $ for a private jeep and it is the price of one way travel.
Trekking starts from Syaprubeshi. This is the gateway town for the Langtang region’s trekking. The trail is behind the town and starts after crossing the Trishuli River. The trail follows the green lush forests trail along the river. It is one of the scenic trekking routes of the region as trekkers traverses through many waterfalls. You can encounter various wildlife in the trail too. If you are lucky then you can spot the rare species of Red Panda as well. Trekkers have to spend overnight in Lama Hotel and Langtang village before reaching the Kyanjin Gompa.
The trekking trail is well maintained but you may have to walk on the rocky trail in few places. The debris of the Langtang Village made by the 2015 Langtang Lirung Avalanche is also on this trekking section. There are many Chortens, Stupas, and monasteries along the trail. Therefore, trekking in this section offers unique tranquility and foster spirituality among trekkers. It takes about 2 nights and 3 days of trekking to reach the village of Kyanjin Gompa from Syaprubeshi.
Kyanjin Gompa is the small village up in the mountainous region of Langtang Valley. It is located in the foothill of the Kyanjin Ri and offers breathtaking scenery of mountains as well as glaciers. It is located at an altitude of 3870 m from sea level. Major sources of income of the people of the Kyanjin are tourism and agriculture. Trekkers spend more nights in this village. Therefore, it is always bustling with lots of domestic and foreign trekkers.
Yala Peak Climbing requires proper acclimatization. Therefore, trekkers have to do the Kyanjin Ri hike before trekking towards the Yala Peak Base Camp. It takes about 2 to 3 hours to reach the top of the Kyanjin Ri. You will be blessed by the mesmerizing scenery of mountains like Langtang Lirung, Gangchenpo, Ganesh Himal, Tsergo Ri Peak, etc. In addition, you will be awestruck by the view of the glacier lake and river valleys of the Langtang region of Nepal. Climbers begin the trek to Yala Peak Base Camp (4600 meters) from the Kyanjin Village. There are two trekking routes to reach the Yala Peak Base Camp from Kyanjin village. They are the upper route via Tsergo Ri (4984 m) and the second is via Yala Kharka. The climbing guide will decide whether to use the Tsergo Ri route of Yala Kharka route according to the conditions of the trekkers.
Tsergo Ri route to Yala Peak Base Camp is arduous as it involves steep uphill sections. Once you reach the top of the Tsergo Ri, you will have to walk uphill for about half an hour to reach the base camp. Therefore, the local climbing guides started the Yala Kharka route. It is through the grassy meadows and the trail is winding uphill with slow climb. The Yala Kharka route is longer than the Tsergo Ri route but it is more easier.
The base camp of the Yala Peak is situated at an altitude of 4600 m from sea level. However, some prefer to camp at the 4700 m altitude. It depends upon the group you are climbing with and the availability of the water sources. There are many small glacier melted lakes in surrounding of the base camp. Climbers will be briefed about the trail conditions and you will acclimatize for the summit push. Short training is also provided to the climbers if required. During the autumn season climbing you may have to climb on the icy trail. Therefore, the climbing guide provide you the short training about climbing using fixed rope and using the ice axes. You also need to get familiarized about walking by using crampons. However, during the months of spring season you may not require all these gear.
Tented accommodation is arranged in the Yala Peak Base Camp with the makeshift kitchen for meal. The climbing team’s cook will prepare meal for the climbers. This is the only day that climbers spend overnight in a tented facility. In other days of the trekking, they use tea house for lodging and food.
Climbing starts early in the morning before dawn. All the climbers are lined up and start the climb using the help of the torch lights. After walking for about half an hour the morning light start to appear. The sight of the mountains decorated by the morning sunshine is splendid to watch. In addition, climbers can relish the 360 degree view of mountains. The trail is rocky full of big boulders and small pebbles. About 270 m before reaching the top, the trail is steep vertical where you may have to use the rope to climb. You may not find snow on the top of the Yala Peak but it depends upon the time of the climbing. If it is snowing then you can experience the snowy summit otherwise it is a rocky summit.
Climbers trek downhill all the way to Yala Peak Base Camp and rest for a while for a small brunch break. The journey continues to the Kyanjin Village. It is the most joyous day of the Yala Peak Climbing Itinerary. After the successful climbing, you can enjoy in the tea house with the climbing and trekking crew members.
Normally, the Yala Peak Climbing Itinerary includes the return trek to Lama Hotel from Kyanjin Gompa. However, the best way to explore the Langtang Valley Trek route is by choosing the trek to Sherpa Gaon instead of Lama Hotel. If you have time then you can also do the day hike to Kaal Taal from Sherpa Gaon. There are many options for the trekkers as they can extend the trek by exploring various Tamang Villages of the Tamang Heritage Trail Trek route. It requires additional days and you have to inform your trekking agency in an advance about this activity.
The return trek is always enticing in any trekking activities in Nepal. The altitude decreases and you feel lot lighter while returning from the high – altitude places. Finally, trekkers return back to Syaprubeshi from Sherpa Gaon and eventually traveling back to Kathmandu via Pasang Lhamu Highway.
