Manang Village: The Heart of the Annapurna Circuit
The trail of the Annapurna Circuit Trek in Nepal is the cornerstone of Nepalese trekking industry. After the Everest Base Camp Trek route, the trail hosts high number of trekkers! In fact, it is one of the oldest trekking routes of Nepal. Recently, the number of trekkers has dropped significantly due to construction of roads but it is still one of the most popular trails of Nepal. The most famous village in this trekking route is the Manang Village. Moreover, the village acts as the lifeline for trekkers as they spend at least two nights. Crucial acclimatization activity happens in the village where trekkers carry out different activities.
Several side treks from the Annapurna Circuit Trek bases from the Manang Village. For example, the Nar Phu Valley Trek connects with the village. Similarly, the Tilicho Lake Trek also starts from the Manang Village. Usually, trekkers spend two nights in the village and head to Tilicho Lake via Siri Kharka and Tilicho Base Camp.

How to Reach Manang? Bus, Jeep, or Traditional Trekking Routes
Access to Manang is by road! The dirt off road track connects the Manang Village with Besisahar. Please note that the road is bumpy and it still needs lots of renovation. Therefore, 4WD jeeps are the best option to reach the village. Nowadays, few local buses run during dry seasons too! Besides bus and jeep, few mini – trucks and tractors carrying goods run in the road to Manang. Major obstacles for transportation facilities are streams, high ridges, and waterfalls along the way.

Do you know that the Manang village has an airport? Yes, there is an airport about 2.5 kilometers away from the village. The name of the airport is the Humde Airport but it is no longer in operation. Understanding Manang Altitude and Essential Acclimatization Tips
Some travelers choose to drive directly to Manang village to shorten their trekking itinerary of the Annapurna Circuit Trek. The blogger highly recommends against doing such acts! Reaching the place above 3500 m in a day is not ideal for acclimatization. Higher elevation places post serious threats of altitude sickness which can be fatal too. Therefore, it is wise to gain altitude gradually and start the trek from Chame. Spend at least one night in between before reaching the Manang Village. Don’t underestimate the threats of the altitude sickness!

Exploring the Stunning Gangapurna Lake and Glacier
Did you actually check out Gangapurna Lake yet? Wow. It’s this surreal, freezing puddle of melted glacier glass sitting right outside town. Go now or don’t skip the hike when you are on the Annapurna Circuit Trek journey. A remarkably quick hike straight across the roaring Marsyangdi River drops you directly onto the unstable, rocky moraine, leaving you completely breathless and totally amazed. Stunning is not enough to describe the beauty of the lake. You're staring straight into a massive wall of blue-white ice cracking off the glacier coming out of Gangapurna Mountain.
A Visit to Praken Gompa (The Hundred Lama Monastery)
I prefer Praken Gompa the most among several places around Manang Village. Why? It is located securely away on a sheer cliffside overlooking the entire valley, it’s an absolute hidden gem that most impatient trekkers completely skip. You drag yourself up through scrubby bushes for an hour from Manang Village to reach the Hundred Lama Monastery.
An elderly monk has lived quietly in this isolated cave monastery for decades. Here's the catch, you get a legit blessing from him right before tackling the incredibly brutal high pass. Sitting up there, staring down at the massive Annapurna IV, makes you feel impossibly small and totally insignificant. It’s truly a pure magic.

Now, if your lungs can handle the thinning air, drag yourself up to Ice Lake. Just do it. It’s a lung-busting climb over a thousand meters straight up from Braga. If you are looking for adventurous altitude acclimatization hike during the Annapurna Circuit Trek or the Tilicho Lake Trek in Nepal, then hike to the Ice Lake. Your body desperately needs this horrific torture to survive Thorong La pass later.
The dusty switchbacks feel totally endless. Keep moving. It pays off once you stop gasping for breath at Kicho Tal. Staring at the frozen lake reflecting the Annapurna range completely shatters your perception of reality.
Major Traditional Festivals of Manang: Cultural Insights
Are you timing your mountain trip right? Catch Yartung festival in Manang. Locals celebrate the end of summer with absolutely terrifying, unbridled intensity. We're talking wild horse races at stupidly high altitude. It’s incredible. You can contact the travel planners of the Nepal High Trek to knit the trek package that coincides with the festival.
Riders from neighboring dusty villages tear aggressively across open fields, showing off dangerously fast galloping skills while the crowd goes completely insane. Archery contests pop off too. Besides the adrenaline-fueled sports, it’s surprisingly spiritual. Monks lead massive processions, and families gather for blessings in their traditional clothes.

Local Flora and Fauna in the Trans-Himalayan Region
In the trans-Himalayan region, you can find unique flora and fauna.
