How to Prepare for 9 Days Annapurna Base Camp Trek ?

Regular itinerary of the Annapurna Base Camp Trek consists of 12 to 14 days plan. However, the 9 Days Annapurna Base Camp Trek is shorter which naturally requires trekkers to prepare more in terms of physical fitness level and stamina. You have to walk for about 6 to 7 hours in an average every day in the steep uphill & downhill trail.

So, prepare well before the trek by doing various exercises that boost your cardio – vascular abilities and fitness. Besides physical preparation, you need to obtain the travel insurance that has plan of emergency helicopter rescue in the places above 4000 m altitude. Similarly, you need to pack well with layered clothes, sturdy hiking boots, trekking poles, etc. Trekkers need the Annapurna Conservation Area Project (ACAP) permit for the trek and it must be obtained before the trek.

Best Time to do ABC Trek in Nepal

Choose months of spring season (March – May) and the months of autumn season (September – November) for better trekking experiences. Details Itinerary

Today’s trek is more difficult than yesterday. Early in the morning, we will wake up and do some stretching by enjoy the view of the mountain and the valley. After breakfast, we will begin to walk uphill. As we leave the Ulleri Village, we will enter the green lush forests section. The smell of the forests and the chirping sound of birds can motivate us in this uphill trekking. We will have lunch in Banthanti before continuing our journey to Ghorepani. Once we reach the village, the view opens up gorgeously. The sight of the valley, cascading hills, forests, and mountains can help you forget all the pain endured during the uphill trekking from Ulleri. Overnight in a tea house.

Before dawn, we will start our hike to the top of the Poon Hill for sunrise view. We will walk on the well – trodden stone staircase trail with the help of torchlight through darkness. As we wait for the sun to rise, we will enjoy the sip of the coffee or tea including the magnificent scenery. After witnessing the sunrise, we will head back to our tea house and prepare to trek to Tadapani after having breakfast. We have to walk uphill all the way to the top of the Gurung Hill before trekking downhill to Tadapani via Nangethanti and Deurali. Overnight in a tea house.

From this day, we will walk on the trail to the Annapurna Base Camp. After breakfast, we will descend through forests all the way down to the Kimrong River. The first section is okay to walk but you need to careful while trekking downhill to avoid any cramps. We will then continue the uphill trek all the way to the Chhomrong Village. As usual, we will begin our trekking after breakfast. We will officially enter the Annapurna Sanctuary trail today. Our journey is through bamboo and rhododendron forests. Today’s trail is through forests alongside the gorge overlooking gigantic hills on both sides. We will have lunch in Sinuwa village before continuing the trek to Bamboo. Overnight in a tea house

We continue our pursuit of reaching the Annapurna Base Camp and today’s trail has gentle uphill trail to gradual ascent past Dovan and Himalaya along the Modi River gorge. The trail doesn’t seem to end and you need to be patient. Maintain the uniform pace throughout the trek to not over strain the body. We will have lunch in Himalaya and continue the gradual uphill trail to Deurali. Overnight in a tea house

Finally, we will reach the Annapurna Base Camp today. At first, the trail is rugged and we walk through the glacier and river banks. After crossing the river, we take the gradual narrow uphill trail to the Machhapuchhre Base Camp where we will have lunch before trekking to the Annapurna Base Camp. The trail is a gentle Nepalese flat after crossing the ridge above the Machhapuchhre Base Camp. Once we reach the Annapurna Base Camp, we will take pictures and stroll around the tea house to enjoy the scenery of mountains and valleys. Overnight in a tea house.

Early in the morning, we will wake up to enjoy the magnificent sunrise experience from the base camp. We will have breakfast in our tea house and then retrace the same trail back to Bamboo. Today is a long day of downhill trekking. Therefore, pace up as instructed by your trekking guide. Remember that the downhill trekking is more difficult than the uphill trekking. After reaching the Annapurna Base Camp, some trekkers tend to be complacent which can be dangerous. Therefore, be careful while descending and make sure to heed the instructions of the trekking guide for safety. We will have lunch on the way. Upon reaching the Bamboo village, you can rest and reminiscence about the journey as today is the penultimate day of our trekking trip. Overnight in a tea house.

After breakfast, we will continue to retrace the same trail back to Jhinu Danda via Chhomrong. We will stop for about 1.5 hours to 2 hours in Jhinu Danda enjoying the natural hot springs. Give your tired muscles some relaxation and we will then board a jeep near Jhinu Danda and travel back to Pokhara. Our trek ends and we will bid you farewell in Pokhara with promise to meet again for another exciting trekking in Nepal.
