Details Itinerary

Early in the morning, you will picked up by the trekking guide from hotel. We will travel to Machha Khola in a private jeep. The journey is joyous as we travel through hills and valleys. The road from Salyantar to Machha Khola is off road but the scenery of Budi Gandaki River, terraced farmlands, and villages make this bumpy ride memorable. Overnight in a tea house.

We will begin our trekking after breakfast. The trail is mostly off road through green lush forests and we will have Budi Gandaki River on our side throughout the day. The journey is definitely joyous as it is the first day of the trekking. We traverse through various waterfalls and hamlets. The feel of rural Nepal starts to blend into you making this journey exciting and enticing. Overnight in a tea house.

The trek from Jagat to Deng is a scenic and challenging day, marked by steady ascents and dramatic views of the Himalayas. Starting at around 1300 meters in Jagat, the trail slowly climbs through dense forests and terraced fields. You'll pass small villages, cross suspension bridges, and follow the river along narrow, rocky paths. The route gradually ascends to Deng, where you'll rest for the night at an altitude of 1800 meters. Although the climb is strenuous, the breathtaking views of the Manaslu Range and the sense of remote adventure make it worthwhile. You’ll experience the changing landscapes and gradually increasing altitude, getting closer to the high mountain terrain. Overnight in a tea house.

On Day 05, the trek from Deng to Namrung is a bit more challenging, with a steady gain in altitude. As you move from Deng at 1800 meters to Namrung at 2660 meters, the landscape transitions from lush forests to more rugged, alpine terrain. The day begins with a steep climb through forests of rhododendron and pine, with glimpses of high Himalayan peaks in the distance. As you approach Namrung, you'll pass through small Tibetan-style villages where locals might be seen carrying out traditional activities like herding yaks or tending fields. The views of Mount Manaslu and the surrounding peaks continue to impress. The altitude increase also means a slower pace to adjust to the thinning air. Overnight in a tea house.

The trek to Shyala from Namrung is a rewarding day that brings trekkers higher into the mountains. Starting from Namrung at 2660 meters, you’ll ascend through a series of switchbacks and ascend toward Shyala, situated at 3500 meters. The terrain is rugged and increasingly barren as you gain altitude. As you hike, the landscape opens up, offering panoramic views of some of the region’s most impressive peaks, including Manaslu and Ganesh Himal. The trail passes through the alpine meadows and small settlements like Lihi and Sho, where you can experience the unique Tibetan-influenced culture. The trek is long, but the views and the sense of getting closer to the high mountains make it incredibly rewarding. Most of the trekking guide claim that the view from Shyala is the best view that you see during the Manaslu trekking. Overnight in a tea house.

Day 07 is both a spiritual and physical journey. After reaching Shyala, trekkers will take a detour to visit Pungyen Gompa, a sacred monastery nestled at the foot of the massive Manaslu Glacier. The visit to Pungyen Gompa offers a peaceful and spiritual break, where you can explore the monastery and take in the beautiful views of the glacier and surrounding peaks. After the visit, you continue your trek to Samagaon, a Tibetan village situated at 3570 meters. The trail is quite scenic, with views of the high peaks and the vast glacial landscapes. Samagaon is the gateway to the Manaslu Base Camp, and it provides an excellent spot to acclimatize while enjoying local Tibetan culture. Overnight in a tea house.

Day 08 is an acclimatization day designed to help your body adjust to the higher altitude. The hike to Manaslu Base Camp via Birendra Lake is a strenuous, yet awe-inspiring adventure. The day begins with a steep ascent as you leave Samagaon and head towards the lake. Birendra Lake, nestled at 3480 meters, is an excellent spot to catch your breath and take in the scenery before continuing to the base camp. The final push to Manaslu Base Camp at 4800 meters is demanding, but the views of Manaslu, the surrounding glaciers, and the landscape are unparalleled. This hike, although tiring, will prepare your body for the higher altitudes and serve as a key acclimatization step before continuing the trek. Overnight in a tea house.

The trek from Samagaon to Samdo is a relatively shorter day, giving you a chance to adjust to the altitude and take in the scenery at a more leisurely pace. Starting from Samagaon at 3570 meters, you’ll trek through high-altitude terrain, with views of glaciers and alpine meadows. The trail is a mix of rocky paths and grassy fields, and it gradually climbs to the village of Samdo at 3870 meters. This village is one of the highest settlements in the region and offers a perfect spot to rest and prepare for the next leg of the journey. The smaller size of Samdo compared to previous villages gives it a peaceful, remote feel. Overnight in a tea house.

Day 10 sees you trekking from Samdo to Dharmasala, a critical point on the journey as you get closer to the high-altitude regions. The trail is characterized by more challenging terrain, with large boulders and winding paths. The hike to Dharmasala at 4470 meters offers stunning views of the Manaslu range and nearby peaks. The trek is relatively short but involves a steady climb, and trekkers may feel the effects of the high altitude, so it’s essential to take your time and drink plenty of water. Dharmasala, a small settlement, is often the final stop before reaching the Larkya La Pass, making it an essential base for acclimatization before tackling the high pass. Overnight in a tea house.

The most challenging and the longest day of the trek is today. Therefore, we start the trek before dawn after having early breakfast. Sometimes, we pack the breakfast and begin the trek around 4:30 am or 5 am in the morning. The trail is strenuous and we walk with the help of the torch light. As we approach the top, we start to get the first ray of the sunlight. It is definitely the most enticing experience while walking on the longest mountain pass of Nepal. Once at the top, we will enjoy the breathtaking scenery of mountains from the Manaslu and Ganesh Himal range. We will then continue to descend down to the village of Bimthang. The trail section to Bimthang is through landslide area and we will have to walk carefully. Once we reach the village, we will celebrate among us for this exciting adventure. Overnight in a tea house.

We will begin today’s trek after breakfast. Our trek is through green lush forests and it is exciting as the altitude drops we start to feel much better too. After reaching Tilje, we will board the local four wheel jeep and drive Besisahar. We will enjoy in our hotel in the evening with the trekking crew members as it is the last day of the trek. Overnight in a tea house

Today we will return back to Kathmandu in a private jeep. Upon reaching Kathmandu, the company will host the farewell dinner. The dinner will be at the Nepalese cultural restaurant. We will review about the trek and exchange pleasant memories. Overnight in a hotel.

Frequently Asked Questions

Yes, it is possible now! Our travel planners never create the trekking package without the proper local knowledge. After verifying the presence of luxury lodges, eateries, and possibility to include services beyond regular itinerary, we have created the Luxury Manaslu Circuit Trek package. Few years before, Luxury Manaslu Trek was not possible but it is possible to do luxury and sumptuous trekking trip in Manaslu.

You need Annapurna Conservation Area Permit (ACAP - NRs. 3000), Manaslu Conservation Area Permit (MCAP - NRs. 3000), Tsum Nubri Rural Municipality Entry Permit (NRs. 1000), and special Restricted Area Permit. The cost of the special restricted area permit is 100 $ for 7 days with additional 15 $ for each extra day during the autumn season. Spring, winter, and monsoon/summer season permit costs are different from autumn. It costs 75 $ for 7 days with an additional 10 $ for each extra day.

There is no limit in terms of number of trekkers in this trekking route. However, you must be in a group of at least two trekkers for this trek. The special restricted regions of Nepal have rules which clearly state that you are not allowed to do solo trekking or tour. You must have a trekking guide and you must travel in a group of at least two travelers.

The best time to do the Manaslu Circuit Trek in Nepal is definitely spring season (March - May). Similarly, the autumn season (September - November) is also considered as the ideal season to do the trek. Avoid monsoon season and December of winter season is also okay to trek in this route.

Crossing the Larke La Pass is considered one of the most challenging sections of the Manaslu Circuit Trek. At 5,160 meters (16,930 feet), it is the highest point on the trek and can be physically demanding. The pass involves a steep, long ascent followed by a sharp descent, both of which can be tiring due to the altitude and the rocky terrain. The weather can be unpredictable, with snowfall, wind, and cold temperatures common, which further adds to the difficulty. Additionally, trekkers need to contend with altitude-related issues such as shortness of breath and fatigue, making it essential to acclimatize properly. Many trekkers opt for an early start to avoid the afternoon weather changes. The trek requires a good level of physical fitness, preparation, and mental endurance to ensure a safe and successful crossing.

Yes, it is possible to do the Annapurna Circuit Trek after completing the Manaslu Circuit Trek, and many trekkers combine both treks for a more extensive trekking experience in Nepal. Both treks offer diverse landscapes and cultural immersion, though they differ in difficulty and terrain. The Annapurna Circuit Trek is well-established with better infrastructure, including more frequent teahouses, and it generally has lower altitude challenges compared to the Manaslu Circuit, making it slightly easier for those who have acclimatized in Manaslu. The transition from one trek to the other can be done smoothly by traveling via jeep from the end of the Manaslu route to the start of the Annapurna Circuit. However, it's essential to consider your stamina, as completing both treks consecutively requires good physical preparation, time, and careful planning, especially regarding altitude and rest days for acclimatization.

Tea houses along the Manaslu Circuit Trek offer basic but comfortable accommodations and meals. The conditions vary depending on the altitude and the remoteness of the area, with teahouses at lower elevations generally having better facilities. In higher-altitude regions, especially near Larke La Pass, tea houses are simpler, and sometimes only basic amenities such as shared rooms and common toilets are available. However, they typically provide warm food and drinks, including popular options like dal bhat (lentil soup with rice), noodles, soup, and Tibetan bread. Many teahouses also offer a selection of snacks, tea, and coffee. Hygiene standards are generally acceptable, but in more remote locations, services may be more limited. Overall, trekkers should be prepared for basic, no-frills accommodation and meals, and it’s advisable to carry some snacks and water purification tablets for backup.

Yes, some trekking agencies in Nepal offer discounts or group deals for larger groups of trekkers or clients. If you’re organizing a trek for a group of people, you may be eligible for special rates or discounted prices depending on the number of participants. Typically, discounts are offered for groups of five or more, but this can vary between agencies. These discounts may apply to the cost of the trekking permit, guide, porter services, or the overall trek package. It's important to inquire directly with trekking agencies to see what offers are available, as prices and discounts can differ. Additionally, organizing a group trek can provide added benefits such as a shared experience, team spirit, and a more personalized itinerary, as you can often customize the trek to meet the group’s preferences.

Luxury treks in the Everest, Annapurna, Langtang, and Manaslu regions differ mainly in terms of the level of comfort, services, and accommodations provided along the trek. Proper luxurious treks in Everest include stays at high-end lodges like the Everest View Hotel, offering panoramic views of Mount Everest and gourmet meals. Helicopter rides for scenic views or to shorten distances are also available in luxury packages. Annapurna luxury trek provides luxury lodges with private rooms, modern facilities, and high-standard meals. Some packages also include helicopter flights to shorten trekking days. While luxury treks in Langtang are more basic than those in Everest or Annapurna, the focus is on comfort and privacy with quality teahouses. There are fewer luxury lodges, but exclusive itineraries may include boutique hotels and a more intimate experience. Nowadays, luxury treks in Manaslu provide more remote, less crowded experiences. Luxury services may include comfortable accommodations, gourmet meals, and professional guides, though the region remains less developed compared to others. Remember that you may not find luxury lodging in Dharmasala otherwise you can find it in other places. In all these regions, luxury trekking packages cater to those seeking comfort, private rooms, better food, and additional services like hot showers and Wi-Fi in remote areas, enhancing the trekking experience significantly.

The Manaslu Circuit Trek offers a few interesting side trips that provide additional cultural experiences and stunning views. One of the most popular side trips is to Tsum Valley, a remote and culturally rich region known for its Tibetan Buddhist culture, monasteries, and spectacular landscapes. Tsum Valley is located to the north of the Manaslu circuit and offers a more off-the-beaten-path experience. Another option is a side trip to Samdo Village or Larkya La, which allows trekkers to explore additional remote villages before heading towards the pass. Some trekkers also opt for a trip to the Buddhist monasteries in the region, like the Gumba Lungdang Monastery, for a deeper insight into local traditions. These side trips extend the trekking duration but add to the cultural and scenic appeal of the area. Depending on your time and energy levels, these side trips can make the trek even more rewarding.

While it is technically possible to do the Manaslu Circuit Trek in winter (December to February), it is generally not recommended for most trekkers due to harsh weather conditions. The high-altitude sections, particularly around the Larke La Pass, are prone to heavy snowfall, freezing temperatures, and strong winds, which can make the trek dangerous. Additionally, many teahouses and trekking services are closed during the winter season due to low demand.  Only handful of these places are open and run by the workers rather than the owners. Access to the route may also be limited by snow or landslides, particularly in remote areas. However, if you're an experienced trekker with appropriate gear and a willingness to brave the cold, winter treks can offer solitude and unique views. Just be prepared for extreme conditions and be aware of the risks involved, including potential altitude sickness and avalanches.

The Manaslu Circuit Trek requires a guide due to Nepal's trekking regulations and the region's remoteness. As of recent years, the government has mandated that all trekkers in the Manaslu Conservation Area must be accompanied by a licensed guide or porter-guide. This is primarily for safety reasons, as the trek takes you through isolated areas with minimal infrastructure, and having a guide ensures that trekkers can get help in case of emergencies, such as altitude sickness, injury, or getting lost. Additionally, the terrain around Manaslu can be challenging, with steep ascents, difficult crossings, and unpredictable weather. Guides also help navigate the complex permit requirements, cultural sensitivities, and provide local insights about the region. Lastly, trekking in a group with a guide enhances the overall experience, fostering a sense of safety, community, and connection to the environment.
